Abstract

Introductoin: The purpose of the research is to investigating the effectiveness of teaching with multiple methods on self-directed learning and academic progress of students in Kerman city.
Method: This research was applied in terms of purpose and quasi-experimental in terms of method with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the research was 448 students of the sixth grade of elementary school in Kerman city, who were selected using the available sampling method, and two classes of 20 students were selected and randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. In addition to the usual method of teaching, the Experimental sciences group was trained in 8 sessions in the science lesson with new teaching methods. The control group continued with the usual teaching method. To collect data from the Williamson Self-Directed Learning Questionnaire (2007) and Pham & Taylor's (1999) academic achievement questionnaire were used to collect information. Multivariate covariance analysis was used for analysis.
Results: The results of the research showed that combining traditional methods with modern methods is effective in improving self-directed learning, But it does not have a significant impact on academic achievement. So that the amount of learning in the self-directed thinking of students who were trained with modern teaching methods was better than those who were not trained with this method, and the self-directedness of students in the process of learning and the impact of beliefs and behaviors on their performance in relation to research and creation Desire and motivation for research and study and It increased for research and study and self-organization and self-management. Other findings also showed that: The academic progress of students who were trained with modern teaching methods was not significantly different compared to the control group due to the internal conditions of the students.
Discussion and Conclusion: One of the duties of the teacher is to provide the external conditions of learning by using active and new learning methods to realize the internal stages of learning. In fact, external conditions have been prepared for the knowledge of learners by using new teaching methods. However, due to the internal conditions of the learners, the new teaching method has not had much effect on the academic progress of the students, and it should provide the internal conditions of learning along with external factors.
