Abstract

The present study aims to examine the proverbs of the field of education in Proverbs and the Judgment of Dehkhoda from the perspective of Dewey's pragmatism, emphasizing the role of the teacher, the student, and practical application in life. In the present study, documentary, descriptive-analytical, and inferential methods were used. The research was conducted in two steps: In the first step, proverbs related to the field of education were selected from the research field of the book Proverbs and the Judgment of Dehkhoda in a purposeful and criterion-based manner, and in the second step, the main point, educational implication from the perspective of the teacher and the student, and their application in life were extracted and expressed from the perspective of John Dewey's pragmatism. The findings indicate that the educational implications of proverbs include things such as: being pragmatic in learning and education, not relying on one's own knowledge, effort and perseverance in learning, effective education in childhood, and being willing to learn, which can be practical and useful for teachers, educational staff, parents, and students. Based on the results, by using proverbs in practice, a thoughtful, pragmatic, and critical society can be created. Therefore, teachers and educational administrators must first create their own examples and, by using practical and active methods in education, allocate opportunities to analyze proverbs to teach the moral, educational, and educational principles contained in them in order to lead students to experience, apply what they have learned, and acquire new practical skills.
