Designing a Model for Readiness Assessment of Higher Education Institutions to Become a Third Generation University, a Case study

Document Type : Original Article

Abstract

The formation of third-generation universities (or entrepreneurial and innovative universities) is a necessity. Hence, the recognition of factors and indicators of this university can help to transform the current situation of higher education institutions and universities into dynamic third-generation universities and by this recognitin universities can know better their strengths and weaknesses. Due to the new concepts introduced in academic literature, such as the globalization and internationalization of education, the commercialization of academic ideas, the participation of universities in the employment of their graduates; this study aimed to provide a model for assessing the readiness of higher educational institutions to become a third-generation university. Using the existing literature and utilizing the views of the experts in the field of university entrepreneurship, the conceptual framework of the research was designed. Based on this, a questionnaire with 79 items was made to collect data. The statistical population of the study was 227 faculty members in six faculties of Shahed University. At least 140 items were counted according to the Morgan table and 182 questionnaires were collected by random sampling method. Since the assurance of the normalization of data and the adequacy of the number of samples are two basic assumptions for using factor analysis, these two indicators were initially investigated. The score of 061/0 of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test shows the normal distribution of data and based on the results of the KMO test (with a score of0.925    and a score of 15489.1799   of Bartlett's test, it can be said that the adequacy of the sample was confirmed for a factor analysis. The exploratory factor analysis revealed that the value of the specific factor for each factor load for the first factor was 34.141, the second factor was 6.203, the third factor was 24.07, the fourth factor 802.2, the fifth factor 067.2 the sixth factor is 830/1, and the seventh factor is 522.1, the eighth factor is1.400. In total, the total variance explained these factors explained 692/70% of the variance of 76 items. At the end, the results showed that Shahed University was ready to become a third-generation university. In the indicators of goals and mission, management and leadership, the characteristics of entrepreneurship of teachers, characteristics of entrepreneurship of staff and students; the status quo was desirable. More attention needs to be paid to indicators of internal and structural units, c relationship with industries, financial institutions, commercialization andinternationalization of education.
