Investigation Current and Desirable Situation of Curriculum General Goals of the Eleventh Grade Environmental Education in Iran According to the Views of Curriculum and Environmental Specialist

Abstract

This study has investigated the current and desirable situation of curriculum general goals of the eleventh grade environmental education according to the views of curriculum and environmental specialist. It is a qualitative research which has done by descriptive-analysis method. The research population included curriculum specialists of Esfahan city (Esfahan University, Esfahan Azad University, and Farhangian University) and environment specialists of Tehran and Esfahan. The method was purposeful and chain. The information gathering tools were semi structural interview form which is used for defining its validity from content validity, and coding by referees (supervisor, counselor and an external referee) used for getting validity. Quantitative data were analyzed based on the method of "interview content analysis". The results showed that general goals of teaching eleventh grade environment is not desirable from the view of both environment and curriculum specialists, because what has been described in current documents as general goals of environment education is unclear and lack need assessment and executive capability. From the viewpoint of both groups the weaknesses of current goals are in three parts: before targeting, expressing goals content and goals performing. According to the both groups of specialists who were interviewed, four item were the most important general goals of environment education including: reinforcing the culture of preserving environment, reinforcing the belief  of preserving environment, training a citizen who presents a solution for preserving the environment and takes action and reinforcing environment behavior.
