Integrated Curriculum and its Situation in the Elementary Curriculum of Iran

Abstract

The educational experts and the curriculum developers considered integrated curriculum in the early years of the century. Over the past few years, the interest and need for curriculum integration has intensified in the developed countries. The explosion of knowledge and information, fragmentation of traditional curriculum, and lack of relationships and connections among disciplines, there has been a tendency towards an integrated curriculum.

Integrated curriculum is an educational approach which motivates learners for lifelong learning and develops the required capabilities for living in the twenty first century.

In this article, the integrated curriculum model is presented. At first, based on the review of literature regarding curriculum integration, the fundamental factors were identified and presented as a basis for deciding about the guiding principles of this model. Then the central components have been presented. At end, in order to apply this model in the educational system of Iran, its present situation was investigation in the elementary curriculum of Iran.
